💡 What the odds say
Most likely: Josh Allen at about a 12% chance.
The field is extremely fragmented with no candidate above 11%, an unusually low ceiling for a preseason MVP market, reflecting a lack of consensus and high uncertainty. The biggest recent shift is the flurry of media lists (The Big Lead Jul 16, Yahoo Sports Jul 13) elevating Josh Allen and Matthew Stafford, yet neither has broken away.
📊 Base rate: Since 2010, 13 of 16 NFL MVPs have been quarterbacks, and the winner typically comes from a top-3 seeded team, but current odds show no QB above 11%, well below the typical preseason frontrunner's share.
What's driving it
- • Josh Allen was voted the NFL’s top quarterback by AP writers on Jul 16, reinforcing his status as a leading MVP candidate.
- • Matthew Stafford climbed to the top of ESPN’s QB rankings on Jul 13, threatening the consensus frontrunners and boosting his odds.
- • Multiple outlets (NFL.com Jun 9, Jun 26) highlighted dark horses like Jalen Hurts and Kyler Murray, keeping the field wide open.
Why the front-runners lead
- • Josh Allen's combination of elite passing and rushing stats, plus a strong team expected to contend, gives him the highest floor of any candidate.
- • Lamar Jackson's two previous MVPs prove his ceiling, and if Baltimore returns to a top seed, he could repeat the formula.
- • Patrick Mahomes, despite lower odds than usual, retains a 7% chance due to his consistent production and Kansas City's perennial contention.
Why it's still open
- • The top three sum only 28%, meaning 72% of the probability is spread across the field, leaving ample room for a surge from a rising QB like Drake Maye or Caleb Williams.
- • A strong start by a younger QB (e.g., Caleb Williams or Drake Maye) could quickly vault them into contention, as rookie/young QBs often gain hype early in the season.
- • The dark-horse article (NFL.com Jun 9, Jun 26) specifically names Kyler Murray and Jalen Hurts as candidates who could overtake the leaders if their offenses excel.
What to watch
- • Preseason games (starting early August) — standout performances from a fringe candidate (e.g., a 400-yard game) could rapidly increase their odds.
- • Week 1 of the regular season (September) — opening games often reshape MVP narratives, with a single dominant win pushing a QB into the top tier.
- • Release of official MVP power rankings (typically mid-season) — any shift in top-5 lists will move odds, especially if a non-frontrunner enters the top 3.

Resolution criteria
This market will resolve to the player who wins the 2026 NFL Most Valuable Player award for the 2026-27 NFL season. In the event of a tie, this market will resolve according to the official winner as determined by NFL rules. If multiple winners are announced then this market will resolve to the player whose listed last name comes first alphabetically. If the 2026-27 NFL season is cancelled, postponed after February 28, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, or there is otherwise no winner declared within that timeframe, this market will resolve to “Other”. The resolution source for this market will be official information from the NFL; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
ⓘ A market settles under its own written rules, which can lag what looks decided in the news — so the price may not move to 100% the moment an outcome seems obvious.
