US x Iran diplomatic meeting by July 3, 2026?
🗂 Part of event: Next round of US-Iran peace talks by...? →With the July 3 deadline now past and no new senior-level round of US-Iran talks launched after the June 22 roadmap talks, the market has effectively resolved to No, explaining the 0% Yes probability and the 24-point drop over the last week as traders recognized the deadline had expired without fulfillment.
What's driving it
- • The first round of talks on June 22 produced a roadmap but no follow-on senior-level meeting before the July 3 cutoff, removing the core condition for a Yes resolution (Al Jazeera, Jun 22).
- • Escalation headlines on July 20 — US deploying 100 refueling tankers to Israel and US gas prices hitting $4 — signal a shift toward military posture over diplomacy, reducing any late chance of a meeting (Crypto Briefing, Jul 20).
- • Canada's call for dialogue and Pakistan's review of initiatives (both July 20/19) underscore third-party efforts, but no US-Iran bilateral round materialized within the window.
The case for YES
- • If a senior-level round had been quietly scheduled before July 3 and the market simply mispriced the timeline, the Yes scenario would require evidence of such a meeting; none has emerged.
- • The June 22 roadmap explicitly aimed toward a final deal, keeping diplomatic channels open for a possible last-minute round, but no announcement came before the deadline.
The case for NO
- • The market's resolution criteria require a formal senior-level round to begin by July 3 11:59 PM ET — with that date passed and no such round reported, the No outcome is locked in.
- • Post-June 22, the situation deteriorated: US military assets moved to Israel and gas prices rose, confirming that conflict rather than a new talks round defined the period.
- • Third-party mediation (Canada, Pakistan) did not result in a US-Iran meeting within the window, further cementing the No result.
What to watch
- • No upcoming catalysts — the July 3 deadline has expired, and the market's outcome is effectively determined.

How it resolves
Settled on-chain by UMA's optimistic oracle: once an outcome is clear, anyone can propose the result, which then enters a challenge window where it can be disputed with evidence before it finalizes.
⚖️ A proposed outcome can be disputed during a challenge window before it's final.
Resolution criteria
On June 22, the first round of U.S.-Iran diplomatic talks in Switzerland concluded, with mediators reporting progress toward a roadmap for a final deal and follow-on technical talks expected to continue.(see: https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2026/6/22/us-iran-agree-on-roadmap-towards-final-deal-in-switzerland-talks). This market will resolve to “Yes” if the next formal senior-level round of peace talks between representatives of the United States and Iran begins by the listed date, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to “No.” A qualifying round must be a deliberate in-person diplomatic meeting or negotiating round concerning US-Iran relations, involving senior representatives of both the United States and Iran who are acting in an official capacity and are authorized to conduct or materially direct diplomacy on behalf of their governments. Indirect in-person diplomacy through designated mediators, facilitators, or interlocutors will qualify, provided senior representatives of both the United States and Iran are participating in the same formal diplomatic process with the knowledge and authorization of their respective governments. The representatives need not be in the same room at the same time. Follow-on technical talks from the June 22 Switzerland round will not qualify by themselves. Technical, staff-level, working-group, implementation, monitoring, preparatory, or deconfliction meetings will not qualify unless they occur as part of a new formally convened senior-level U.S.-Iran peace-talks round. Brief greetings, chance encounters, photo opportunities, ceremonial appearances, or talks not deliberately aimed at diplomacy or negotiation will not count. The meeting must be in-person (including indirect in-person meetings) and must be publicly acknowledged by either government or reported by a consensus of credible media. Remote meetings, phone calls, or other meetings where the relevant parties are not present will not count. The resolution sources for this market will be official information from the governments of the United States and Iran, and a consensus of credible reporting.

The field is virtually nonexistent: only two candidates register at 1% each, and no one has broken 5%, making this the most open Democratic nomination race in modern history. The single biggest recent shift is the DNC's decision to put South Carolina first in the 2028 primary calendar (Axios, Jul 25), which could reshape candidate strategies and favor a different type of contender.

The field is highly concentrated, with Andy Burnham absorbing nearly all of the probability after Starmer’s resignation and a key endorsement, pushing the top three candidates' combined odds to an unsustainable 110% that signals liquidity imbalances or heavy speculative positioning. The Republican nomination field is exceptionally fragmented, with no candidate above 5% and the top three sum to just 1% — a sign that the race is truly wide open and still in its earliest jockeying phase, despite a recent poll placing Senator JD Vance near the top of a generic primary ballot (USA Today, Jul 23).
