🗂 Part of event: Will Trump pardon Ghislaine Maxwell by end of 2026? →💡 What the odds say
The market puts this at about a 6% chance — very unlikely.
No money — just record your call and see if you were right. Yes is at 6% right now.
The market heavily favors 'No' despite a recent uptick in media chatter about a potential Trump pardon for Ghislaine Maxwell, driven by her lawyer's public optimism and her refusal to cooperate with Congress, but the political and legal hurdles remain immense.
📊 Base rate: Presidential pardons for high-profile, convicted sex traffickers with no prior relationship to the president are extremely rare, with no clear historical precedent for such an action in the modern era.
What's driving it
- • The odds shifted slightly (down 1 point in 24 hours) following a flurry of April 2026 media coverage, including Politico and Newsweek articles discussing the possibility, but the move was minimal, suggesting the market sees the speculation as noise.
- • Headlines from February 2026 about Maxwell refusing to answer questions in a House deposition (PBS, The Guardian) may have reinforced the narrative that she is angling for a pardon, but the market has consistently priced this as unlikely.
- • No clear recent catalyst explains the current 6% level; the odds have remained low and stable, indicating the market is pricing in the long-shot nature of the event despite periodic media attention.
The case for YES
- • Ghislaine Maxwell's lawyer has publicly stated he believes Trump will pardon her (Politico, Apr 17), suggesting active legal efforts and a belief in Trump's willingness to act.
- • Maxwell's refusal to cooperate with congressional investigators (PBS, Feb 9) could be interpreted as a strategic move to avoid incriminating Trump or his associates, potentially increasing her value as a pardon recipient.
- • Trump has a history of granting pardons to controversial allies and figures, and a pardon for Maxwell could be framed as a political statement against the 'deep state' or the Epstein investigation.
The case for NO
- • Pardoning a convicted sex trafficker like Maxwell would be politically toxic, likely alienating moderate voters and drawing massive bipartisan backlash, making it a high-risk move for Trump even if he wins the presidency.
- • Maxwell's refusal to cooperate with Congress (The Guardian, Feb 9) and her lack of public support from Trump or his inner circle suggest she has little leverage or political capital to secure a pardon.
- • The market's resolution criteria include a 'consensus of credible reporting,' and any pardon attempt would face intense legal scrutiny and likely be blocked or delayed by the Justice Department, making it practically impossible within the timeframe.
What to watch
- • If Trump wins the 2028 presidential election (or if a scenario emerges where he could issue a pardon before 2027), the odds would likely spike as the political calculus becomes more concrete.
- • Any public statement from Trump or his campaign explicitly mentioning Maxwell or a potential pardon would sharply increase the 'Yes' probability.
- • If Maxwell begins cooperating with federal prosecutors or provides testimony implicating high-profile figures, the odds of a pardon could drop further as her value as a protected witness diminishes.
