Will Person AP win the 2027 Argentina presidential election?
🗂 Part of event: Argentina Presidential Election Winner →💡 What the odds say
The market puts this at about a 0% chance — almost no chance.
No money — just record your call and see if you were right. Yes is at 0% right now.
The real story is that the market is treating a 2027 election as already decided because the incumbent libertarian, Javier Milei, has built a dominant position after a decisive midterm win in 2025 and received a bold prediction of a first-round landslide from a minister, but the opposition has not yet consolidated and the political impact of Milei's austerity program remains untested against a potential traditional party candidate.
📊 Base rate: Since the return to democracy in 1983, only two Argentine presidents (Menem 1995 and Cristina Fernández de Kirchner 2011) have been re-elected (including one re-election to a second consecutive term), giving a base rate of roughly 33%, though this market is about a successor candidate (Person AP) and not an incumbent.
What's driving it
- • The market reflects the momentum from the midterm election on 2025-10-27, where Milei's libertarian coalition won decisively (Reuters, Oct 27, 2025; BBC, Oct 27, 2025).
- • Economy Minister Luis Caputo predicted on 2026-05-19 that Milei will win the 2027 election by a landslide in the first round (Buenos Aires Times).
- • Although the reform program faces risks, no strong opposition candidate has emerged to challenge Milei's agenda, leaving the current odds heavily weighted toward a win for his chosen successor.
The case for YES
- • The incumbent party (led by Milei) holds a strong mandate after the 2025 midterm victory and could successfully back a successor candidate, making 'Person AP' a proxy for continuity.
- • Caputo’s public prediction of a first-round landslide, as a senior official with inside knowledge of the economy and campaign plans, signals high internal confidence (Buenos Aires Times, May 19, 2026).
- • If Milei’s austerity program (the 'chainsaw') continues to stabilize the economy and curb inflation by 2027, voters may reward the allied candidate.
The case for NO
- • There is currently no credible, named candidate identified as 'Person AP'; the market may be pricing an abstraction that could be displaced by a real, unpopular nominee or a primary challenge.
- • Austerity programs carry deep social pain; if unemployment or protests spike before October 2027, the electorate could strongly reject the incumbent coalition, sending the election to a second round and potentially favoring a traditional party candidate.
- • The very low odds (0%) suggest the market is not pricing any uncertainty about the identity or viability of 'Person AP' — which itself is a risk if the candidate is not Milei himself.
What to watch
- • Official announcement of the candidate who will run under the Milei coalition (likely late 2026 or early 2027) — if it is a well-known figure with high approval, odds could rise further toward Yes; if it is a weak or controversial pick, odds for No could increase.
- • Release of the next major inflation data or GDP growth figures for Argentina (e.g., Q1 2027 data in mid-2027) — strong numbers would reinforce Yes; a recession or spike in poverty would strengthen No.
- • Emergence of a unified opposition candidate with polling above 30% — this would introduce a credible alternative and likely shift odds toward a competitive race, increasing the probability of No.

Democratic Presidential Nominee 2028
The field is virtually nonexistent: only two candidates register at 1% each, and no one has broken 5%, making this the most open Democratic nomination race in modern history. The single biggest recent shift is the DNC's decision to put South Carolina first in the 2028 primary calendar (Axios, Jul 25), which could reshape candidate strategies and favor a different type of contender.
