Will Partido Liberal (PL) hold the most seats in the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies after the 2026 election?
🗂 Part of event: Brazil Chamber of Deputies Election Winner →💡 What the odds say
The market puts this at about a 76% chance — likely.
No money — just record your call and see if you were right. Yes is at 76% right now.
The high 72% odds for the PL to retain the most seats reflect its deep structural advantage from the 2022 ultraconservative wave, but the ongoing legal crisis around Bolsonaro and the pragmatic pressures on Lula's coalition create a counter-narrative that the market may be underweighting.
📊 Base rate: In the 2022 election, the PL-led conservative wave delivered 99 seats for the party, up from 33 in 2018, a massive gain that typically anchors incumbency advantage in subsequent elections, but such waves often fade.
What's driving it
- • The 2022 ultraconservative wave that swept Congress (Le Monde, Oct 3, 2022) gave the PL a strong baseline, which the current 72% odds reflect as a carryover effect.
- • Bolsonaro's admission of trying to hold power in the 2023 coup attempt trial (Le Monde, Jun 11, 2025) and his subsequent house arrest (San Juan Daily Star, Aug 6, 2025) create legal risk that could weaken PL's voter mobilization.
- • Lula's climate authority challenge highlights the tension between pragmatism and coalition politics (Cambridge, Feb 25, 2025), potentially fragmenting his support and inadvertently helping the PL hold seats.
The case for YES
- • The PL retains a strong grassroots machine from the 2022 wave, and no major scandal has yet eroded its core conservative base, as seen in Bolsonaro's continued political relevance despite legal troubles (Le Monde, Jun 11, 2025).
- • Lula's coalition faces internal strain from climate policy compromises (Cambridge, Feb 25, 2025), which could depress progressive turnout and benefit the PL in proportional seat distribution.
- • Historical precedent from 2018 to 2022 shows the PL's rise from obscurity to dominance (LSE Blogs, Mar 1, 2019) suggests structural realignment that may persist through 2026.
The case for NO
- • Bolsonaro's house arrest and coup trial (San Juan Daily Star, Aug 6, 2025) could demoralize his base and reduce voter turnout for PL candidates, undermining seat retention.
- • Fragmentation on the right, as seen with multiple conservative parties emerging after the 2022 wave, may split votes and cost the PL seats even if conservative totals remain high.
- • Lula's pragmatic centrist coalition may absorb former Bolsonaro-allied parties or moderates (Cambridge, Feb 25, 2025), shifting seat share away from the PL.
What to watch
- • If the Supreme Court issues a final ruling against Bolsonaro in the coup trial before October 2026, the odds for PL would likely drop further, as it could legally bar him from running or campaigning.
- • Any major Lula coalition realignment announcement (e.g., new alliances or candidate withdrawals) before the election could shift odds down or up depending on whether it strengthens or fragments the left.
- • The official candidate registration deadline (scheduled mid-2026) will reveal which parties align with Bolsonaro or Lula, a key event that could move the market in either direction.

How it resolves
Settled on-chain by UMA's optimistic oracle: once an outcome is clear, anyone can propose the result, which then enters a challenge window where it can be disputed with evidence before it finalizes.

Resolution criteria
The next federal Chamber of Deputies election is scheduled to take place in Brazil on October 4, 2026. This market will resolve according to the political party or electoral federation that holds the greatest number of seats in the next Brazilian Chamber of Deputies (Câmara dos Deputados) as a result of the next Brazilian Chamber of Deputies election. In the event of a tie between multiple entities for the most seats held, this market will resolve in favor of the entity whose listed abbreviation appears first in alphabetical order. This market's resolution will be based solely on the number of seats held by the named party or electoral federation in the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies as a result of the next Brazilian Chamber of Deputies election, not by any coalition it may be a part of. If the result of this election isn't known definitively by June 30, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, the market will resolve to "Other". This market will resolve based on the result of the election, as indicated by a consensus of credible reporting. If there is ambiguity, this market will resolve based solely on the official results as reported by the Brazilian government, specifically the Superior Electoral Court (Tribunal Superior Eleitoral, TSE) (e.g., www.tse.jus.br/eleicoes/resultados-eleicoes) or the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies (https://www.camara.leg.br/).

The field is virtually nonexistent: only two candidates register at 1% each, and no one has broken 5%, making this the most open Democratic nomination race in modern history.
